Webinar: Plotting and Scheming: Crafting the Middle Grade Novel to Connect

Date(s) - 11/14/2020
3:00 pm - 4:30 pm

Building a strong connection between character motive and plot can be a daunting task, especially in a middle grade novel. Your readers are some of the harshest critics out there. If they don’t connect to your protagonist fast, the book goes back on the shelf. Deliberately weaving the threads that tie your character’s motive to the plot will also link them to the reader.

Join us for a webinar Plotting and Scheming: Crafting the Middle Grade Novel to Connect. You’ll earn how to structure your plot milestones, directly bind them to your main character’s motive, and craft a strong connection with your reader.

This 90 minute webinar includes a question and answer period and will be recorded if you can’t attend live. The recording will be available for two weeks after the event. Participants will be given a code to submit with their first 5 chapters to Chicken Scratch Books.

Kiri Jorgensen is the Publisher and Senior Editor at Chicken Scratch Books. She is also a writer, teacher, entrepreneur, and most importantly wife and mother. Her involvement in the world of children’s literature spans almost three decades from several different angles. She taught in the public schools for 16 years, from huge school districts to a two-room schoolhouse, and created writing curriculums for middle schoolers. She has written and produced over 30 stage plays for children, served as Regional Advisor for SCBWI Montana, and has taught writing in a variety of settings, age ranges, and genres. She lives with her husband and a plethora of pets in rural Montana, where she cooks her meals on a wood-burning cookstove and is grateful every day for being right where she is.

*A Zoom link to the webinar will be emailed to all attendees on 11/13/2020. Please note that the event is scheduled for 3pm Mountain Standard Time on Saturday, Nov. 14, 2020.
