Conference Field Trips

Field Trips!

All registrants will participate in one field trip on Saturday afternoon. This is your chance to get some hands-on experience with methods to improve your writing craft. Here are your options:

Picture Book Field Trip to Zoo Montana – Led by author Janet Fox

Whether you are a picture book writer or illustrator – or both – this field trip will focus on techniques to deepen the characterization in your stories. As you tour the zoo, you'll be sketching and writing, observing and discussing, and learning from the animals themselves. Can you see their character traits in how they move? How they stretch? How they interact with other animals? How can you capture that in images and words? Following the zoo tour, you'll have the chance to sit in a classroom setting and learn and practice some exploration techniques to deepen your characters in picture books.
